DWSIM 1.6 Beta Build 3605 Released

DWSIM 1.6 Beta is now available for download. Here is the list of changes since build 3399:

- [NEW] Added Spanish GUI translation (many thanks to Abad Lira and Gustavo León!)

- [NEW] Added a Multivariate, Constrained Optimization utility

- [NEW] Added a Sensitivity Analysis utility supporting up to 2 independent variables

- [NEW] Added "command-line run mode" (read the documentation for more details)

- [NEW] Added a 'Write to the Flowsheet' capability to the Spreadsheet

- [NEW] New Property Packages: Chao-Seader, Grayson-Streed, Modified UNIFAC (Dortmund) and Peng-Robinson with support for immiscible water and Volume Translation

- [NEW] New Energy Recycle unit operation

- [NEW] Added more units for the most common properties (temperature, pressure, etc.)

- [NEW] Added code to display a message when the flash algorithm converges to the trivial solution

- [CHG] Redesigned UNIFAC group structure to include all available groups

- [CHG] Report can now show all properties from all objects in the flowsheet

- [CHG] Removed single-phase and phase change limitations from the Heat Exchanger

- [CHG] Property Package selection interface now groups packages by type

- [CHG] Changed component selection interface

- [FIX] Fixed bugs and made minor changes to the code/interface

The documentation was updated (only in English from now on...) and I've added more samples to show you some of the new features. More will come later.

Since this is a "beta" release, it continues to count on users in order to find bugs, which I hope aren't that much this time.

I hope you like this build, as I put too much effort to make it happen this time.

Didn't have the time to review the release but I looked through some of the code briefly. Have you considered using a single method for flash calculation? It looks like there is a lot of duplicated code in each thermo model.

Yes, KP. I'm writing a new flash code based on the algorithm developed by Michelsen for multiphase equilibria. You can look what I've done so far in the file "MichelsenBase.vb" located on the "DWSIM\Objects\PropertyPackages\Base" folder.

With the new scheme, the models will only have to provide the calculation of the fugacities and enthalpies.

Have you looked at inside-out flash techniques (Boston-Britt)? I use them in my process simulator code and they are much simpler and more flexible than Michelsen's method. You can specify more than just T and P. Send me email and I can send you the references.

Yes, I did, but I didn't find any article about inside-out techniques for 'multiphase' flash. Do you know if there is such a procedure?

There is a technique for 'multiphase' flash using inside-out flashes. I'm sending you a paper by email.

About DWSIM

DWSIM is an open-source, steady-state chemical process simulator written in VB.NET. It has a HYSYS-like interface with many of the features present in commercial simulators:
