This tutorial helps you on getting DWSIM running on Ubuntu Linux.

Ubuntu 10.10, 11.04, 11.10

Step 1

Download DWSIM Mono Edition and extract the contents of the file to a folder of your choice. Point the console to that folder and run 'mono DWSIM.exe'. You'll get a warning about a missing assembly (Microsoft.VisualBasic):

Step 2

To install the missing assembly, open the Synaptic Package Manager:

Step 3

Search for 'visualbasic'. Install the library 'libmono-microsoft-visualbasic9.0-cil' and all of its dependencies.

Step 4

After installing the Visual Basic library, try to run DWSIM again with 'mono DWSIM.exe'. You should get it up and running by now.

Ubuntu 12.04, 13.10, 14.10

For newer Ubuntu versions, the process is a little bit different. Install Mono by following the instructions listed here. After installing mono-complete, install the Visual Basic compiler, which is required by DWSIM:

apt-get install mono-vbnc
